Counselling in English and Japanese / Cross-Cultural Support with Miyuki
Welcome
Hello, my name is Miyuki. I am a Person-Centred Counsellor and a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
My approach is warm, empathic, and collaborative. I see counselling as a journey we take together — I am like a co-pilot sitting beside you, helping you find your own direction and solutions.
Counselling with Me
I work with clients from diverse cultural and personal backgrounds. Being Japanese and living in the UK, I understand how challenging it can be to adjust to a new culture or language.
I am particularly interested in cross-cultural issues, identity, and life transitions.
Clients come to me for support with:
• Cultural adjustment and feeling “in between” two worlds
• Relationship and family difficulties
• Work stress and academic pressure
• Anxiety, self-esteem, or loneliness
• Grief and loss
Although I do not offer couple counselling, I can support individuals who are in intercultural or international relationships and wish to explore communication, expectations, or emotional challenges.
In addition, I have experience delivering structured, short-term counselling within the Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) model and am comfortable working in a focused, time-limited way where appropriate.
My Background
I was born in Tokyo, Japan, and worked for over a decade in the commercial sector before moving to the UK to pursue a new career in counselling.
I studied Counselling Psychology at the University of Wolverhampton and completed an MSc in Counselling Psychology at Keele University.
My counselling experience includes working with:
• Sandycroft Centre (Redditch)
• Asian Family Counselling Service (Birmingham)
• Motherwell Cheshire (Crewe)
Alongside counselling, I also teach at a Japanese school in the UK.
Qualifications
• MSc in Counselling Psychology (Keele University)
• Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
• Cruse Bereavement Care Awareness Training
About Me
Outside of my work, I enjoy outdoor sports, wild swimming, running, and baking (I have a sweet tooth!). I also love reading mystery novels, propagating houseplants, and spending time with my two toy poodles.
